Jordyn’s Buzz – May 31st, 2024

Jordyn’s Buzz – May 31st, 2024

I can’t believe it’s already the end of May, but I’m excited to be heading into summer and seeing where Hollywood takes us this season!

Ellen announced this week that she’s embarking on a farewell comedy tour she’s calling Ellen’s Last Stand… Up. If you’re interested, she’ll be at the Boston Center Wang Theater on July 29th and tickets go on sale today at 10am! You can shop for those tickets and see the full list of tour dates here.

If you’re a Paul Mescal fan, this is your week!

Back in 2020, Paul starred in the Hulu sensation Normal People alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones. The show was based off of the novel of the same name by Sally Rooney, and since its release, fans have been demanding a second season. While the possibility looked grim at first, Mescal and Edgar-Jones have remained close and posted a story on Instagram this past week that might have hinted there’s a new project to come. Check out the picture below.

I personally am not sure if I believe there’s going to be a second season of Normal People – I absolutely loved the show and the novel and I don’t know if there’s really any story left to tell for their characters. The ending may have been unsatisfying to some, but I think Marienne and Connell’s (Edgar-Jones and Mescal’s characters) story ended in the perfect place; it felt real and realistic and adding to that might take some of the magic of the story away.

What I think might happen (or maybe just what I hope happens) is that the pair might be starring in the film adaptation of Emily Henry’s novel Beach Read. No casting for the film has been released yet to my knowledge, but Mescal is already rumored to have been cast in the movie, so I’m thinking maybe Edgar-Jones was as well.

For now, check out Normal People on Hulu or check out the novel here and Book Lovers here. Normal People is one of my favorite books/series, but if you check it out, be warned: it does carry some pretty heavy topics at times.

Nicholas Galitzine is another name on the rise right now. In the last few years, he’s starred in movies like Red, White & Royal Blue and Purple Hearts, and most recently, he was the lead in The Idea of You alongside Anne Hathaway.

Since the release of The Idea of You earlier this month, Galitzine’s fame has been off the charts. We learned that there’s a Red, White & Royal Blue sequel film in the works and he’s also going to be playing He-Man in the upcoming Masters of the Universe film adaptation. His name’s going to be staying on the forefront of Hollywood culture for a long time.

To hold you over until Galitzine’s new projects are released, check out the trailer for The Idea of You below. You can watch the full movie on Amazon Prime!

Moving on, here’s some news I’ve been waiting to share for SO long now!

Julie Plec and Carina MacKenzie are currently developing a film adaptation of E. Lockhart’s 2014 novel We Were Liars at Prime Video.

The series is currently filming in Nova Scotia and casting has FINALLY been announced! There are some big, well established names in the cast, but also some on the rise actors as well which I am SO excited about.

Some of the cast include Candice King, Mamie Gummer, Caitlin Fitzgerald, and David Morse plus  Emily Alyn Lind, Shubham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor, and Joseph Zada.

Check out the first photo of the cast below!

The story takes place on an island off the coast of Massachusetts and and follows the Sinclair family who spend their summers on their very own private island. If I say much more, it will unravel too much of the story, but I promise you it’s worth it. It was suspenseful and thrilling – I read the book in a single sitting and couldn’t wait to solve the mystery for myself, so I hope that if you read the book, you’ll love it just as much as I do.

There is currently no release date for the series yet, but once we find out, I will keep you posted. Also keep an eye out for some filming news! I was lucky enough to be able to speak to Julie Plec and Carina MacKenzie about the series and about filming, and because the book takes place in Massachusetts, they both have expressed interest in doing some filming here, so if that happens, I’ll share that as well!

We all know Gordon Ramsay and we all probably know that he’s pretty tough on his chefs in the kitchen! What you might not know is how big of a heart Gordon has outside the kitchen.

Gordon saw a video posted by a young, self-taught chef cooking Gordon’s famous Beef Wellington dish and he was so impressed that he invited the young boy onto Hell’s Kitchen! Check out this article for more info.

Lastly, there’s a new documentary about John Lennon and Yoko Ono in the works by Kevin Macdonald.

The film is called One to One: John and Yoki and will feature remixed concert audio and newly restored archives. Macdonald said he wanted fans to see something that will surprise and delight them, even the most dedicated fans. There is currently no release date for the film yet.

See you back here next week!
