For us in Massachusetts, there’s no greater sign of summer than packing up and heading to Nantucket! This weekend, the island will be home to the annual Nantucket Daffodil Festival.
If you haven’t heard of the festival before, the festival began in 1975 when the Nantucket Garden Club hosted the first Nantucket Daffodil Show. Then, in 1978, an antique car parade was added to the spring festivities followed by a community tailgate. That same year, a project was started to plant one million daffodil bulbs around the island. Now, there are approximately 2 million daffodils on Nantucket!
In the years since, the festival has grown immensely. Here are some things you can expect at this year’s festival:
- Daffy Hat Pageant
- Children’s Beach Bike Parade
- Antique Car Parade on Main Street, Nantucket
- Tailgate Picnic in Siasconset
- NiSHA Daffy Dog Parade
- Daffodil Festival Bazaar
- Family Events at Children’s Beach
Most importantly, at 2pm on 4/29, the 47th Annual Daffodil Show will open to the public at Bartlett’s farm. The show will also be open on Sunday from 10am – 4pm. This year, the theme of the show is “Seas of Daffodils”.

You’re encouraged to dress up in your best florals AND decorate your car for the festival and connect with your community! There’s also a scavenger hunt you can participate in!
The festival seems like the perfect way to kick off summer – if you need further convincing, check out pictures from previous festivals!
