Jordyn’s Buzz – December 8th, 2023

Good morning, listeners!!

If you’re a Broadway fan, this is an exciting weekend! A live recording of Waitress The Musical has been captured on Broadway and it’s in theaters this weekend only!

Waitress is a musical based off of the 2007 film of the same name starring Keri Russel and it was turned into a musical in 2015 with music written by Sara Barielles. If you don’t know the story, it follows an unhappily married waitress who learns that she’s pregnant. The story emphasizes the importance of friends, family, and love and it will have you laughing and crying throughout the entire show.

Waitress is my favorite Broadway show (I’ve seen it more than 10 times!) and the film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year and I was lucky enough to have gotten a ticket to the film’s premiere. The cast is incredible – it includes Sara Barielles, Caitlin Houlihan, Drew Gehling and many more shining stars, and you’ll leave the theater craving more.

If you’re interested, you can grab tickets here. You won’t regret it! I saw the film again in theaters last night, and I laughed, cried, and smiled just as much as I did the first time I saw the show back in 2017. It’s such a special story that will have you leaving the theater feeling a little bit lighter this holiday season. Check out the trailer below.

This past weekend in Covington, Georgia, many of The Vampire Diaries cast members reunited for a fan event in the town that the beloved CW series filmed in for the series that aired from 2009 – 2017.

Epic Cons hosted an event called I Was Feeling Festive in Mystic Falls – and while they’ve hosted events in Covington before, this one was particularly special because Nina Dobrev, who played the beloved Elena Gilbert and notorious Katherine Pierce was in attendance for her very first convention!

I am THE biggest Vampire Diaries fan and I’ve been attending fan events like these for about a decade now. I’ve made an incredible group of friends through this show – my best friends in the world I actually made because of this series – and the group of us came together this past weekend to finally meet the icon herself, Nina Dobrev.

If you’re a fan of this show, you know how special it was for the cast (sans Ian Somerhalder who had to cancel his appearance and Kat Graham) to reunite in the place where so many of these young actors had their start and forged such long lasting bonds. Dobrev seemed thrilled to be back in town; check out some of the tiktoks she made during her trip back in town.

Check out a photo of some of the cast members below after one of the panels. From left to right: Julie Plec, co-creator / Candice King, Caroline Forbes / Paul Wesley, Stefan Salvatore / Sara Canning, Aunt Jenna / Michael Trevino, Tyler Lockwood / Nina Dobrev, Elena Gilbert / Carina MacKenzie, writer / Kayla Ewell, Vicki Donovan.

Let’s keep turning up the nostalgia: Chad Michael Murrary, one of the stars of the WB drama One Tree Hill which aired from 2003 – 2012, says he is ready for a One Tree Hill reboot.

Reboots are all the rage right now, but to my knowledge, One Tree Hill hasn’t had one yet. Three of the women from the show – Hilarie Burton Morgan, Sophia Bush, and Bethany Joy Lenz – have created a podcast together called Drama Queens where they they have stars from the series appear on their podcast and they rewatch the series and look back at it episode by episode, but as far as I know, there hasn’t yet been a reboot or spin off.

The Beetlejuice sequel has also finished filming and is set for a September 2024 release.

The movie will star Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara from the original film, plus some new faces as well including Wednesday star Jenna Ortega. The film is said to be just like the first movie where there is a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife.

Also for movies this week, Barbie officially has a streaming date! It will be on Max beginning on December 15th, and there will also be an ASL version as well!

As for the holidays, Macaulay Culkin was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and had a tearful reunion with Catherine O’Hara, who played his on-screen mother. You can watch the ceremony below.

We also learned recently how Culkin’s legendary scream face from Home Alone came to be. Turns out: it was improvised! Check out this article to read more.

If you’re looking for some classic Christmas movies to watch this season, check out this list that Yahoo compiled. It lists 10 classic holiday films and directs you to where you can watch them.

Lastly, if you’re looking to watch a Charlie Brown Christmas this year, it will not be airing on TV, though it is featured on Apple TV+, and if you do not have a subscription, the service is making the program accessible for free on Saturday, December 16th and Sunday, December 17th.
