Happy September, listeners!!
It seems like this was the summer of breaking records, because not only has Barbie officially become Warner Bros’ highest grossing movie in the box office (even beating Harry Potter!), but Taylor Swift has also become the first female artist to surprise one million monthly listeners on Spotify!
Not only is she the first female artist to achieve this accolade, but she’s also only the fourth artist ever to do it. Back in February, The Weeknd reached 100 million monthly listeners and is now at 110 million per month, followed by Bad Bunny with 80 million and Ed Sheeran at 77 million per month.
There is also a Mean Girls Movie Musical in the works based on the 2004 fan favorite film. Mean Girls opened on Broadway a few years ago, and after its success, talks of a movie adaptation began bubbling up to the surface.
So far, it’s only looking like Tina Fey and Tim Meadows will be returning from the original cast, and Tina Fey is also penning the script as well. I don’t recognize too many names from the cast, but I do know Chris Briney (of the mega-hit Prime series The Summer I Turned Pretty), Ashley Park (of Emily in Paris), and Busy Phillips. There is no release date yet, but it’s expected to stream exclusively on Paramount+ when it’s released.
Back on Broadway, theatergoers can get thrown into the Jaws world in a new project called The Shark is Broken.
The stage play will be on Broadway through November 19th and tells the story of Jaws’ three main actors as they were stuck together on the Orca boat while Bruce, the mechanical shark, was being repaired. Because Bruce was in need of fixing and filming had been halted, it left room for the three actors to tell stories, argue, and simply be bored with one another and The Shark is Broken tells that story.
