Jordyn’s Buzz – July 28th, 2023

Jordyn’s Buzz – July 28th, 2023

Good morning, listeners! As you may have noticed, Rob and I were not on the air this morning since I’m soaking up the Hollywood sun on the west coast this week visiting my family and some friends!

Since I’ve been in LA, I found out that one, I jusssssst missed seeing Frankie Valli at LAX, but two, and more importantly, I finally went to Six Flags Magic Mountain! Personally, I wouldn’t recommend going on a 97 degree day (though the east coast humidity won’t follow you which is a plus), it was a cool experience, especially for DC fans. Batman fans, check out the cool photo below.

We’ve also gotten dinner at a trendy Beverly Hills spot (no celebrity sightings yet!), drove down Hollywood Boulevard and through the Hollywood Hills, I lost a game of bowling, and sang an Easy 99.1 favorite, Summer Nights from Grease, with a friend at a karaoke band’s gig in Studio City.

And last, but not least, I finally saw the highly anticipated BARBIE MOVIE with my cousins. The girls and I dressed up in our pink outfits and headed to the movie theater, and although Rob hasn’t seen the movie, I know he’ll probably disagree with me when I say that the movie was DEFINITELY worth the hype!

Despite having talked about it for months with you guys on The Buzz, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the movie or what the storyline was going to be about. But I personally thought it was a fantastic film with the perfect amounts of comedy mixed with meaningful messages pertinent to our society today. And on the whole, to get to experience the movie with my cousins, especially the 16 and 18 year olds who love Barbie, was a special experience.

Over the weekend, the Barbie film broke box office records bringing in 155M in the US box office during opening weekend alone. It also was the biggest opener ever for a female director, was the biggest movie of 2023 so far, is Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s most successful box office receipt, and is the most successful film to hit theaters for non-sequel and toy-based films.

Talks of a sequel are already out there, though nothing yet has been confirmed nor denied.

Because of its great success, talks are now on the upcoming Polly Pocket movie that is set to star Lily Collins. Now, listeners, when I tell you my jaw was on the floor when I heard this news, I’m not kidding.

Not only is it Polly Pockets, but Lily Collins – daughter of Phil Collins – is one of my favorite actresses in the world. Polly Pockets were my all time favorite toy as a child, and when I heard that news story come on as I washed dishes, my mouth fell open and I felt like a child again as my hands started to shake and I rushed to text my mom the news. Sounds dramatic, I know, but I promise you it’s the truth.

Sticking with movies for now, the Back to the Future musical is set to open on August 3rd on Broadway and they had their Gala performance (which is, according to Broadway’s Marty McFly, a ‘fake opening night of sorts and celebration of back to the future the musical’).

Casey Likes, who is playing Marty, created a heartfelt post about the evening on his Instagram earlier this week, noting that Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Huey Lewis, Steven Speilberg, Robert Zemeckis and practically everyone involved in the Back to the Future movie were there.

Follow this link, Casey shared tons of photos from the evening! Below is one of the photos he shared.

Spielberg and another one of Easy 99.1’s favorites Paul McCartney were also spotted together in New York this week seeing Oppenheimer in the Hamptons.

As for movie releases this week, I know some of you listeners are Disney fans, so don’t miss the release of the new Haunted Mansion movie today, and click here to see a list of all the movies expected to be released today.

As for music, there could potentially be a Taylor Swift television series in the works inspired by her exes, and Frankie Valli also announced he is going to be beginning a Vegas residency later this year. He has a handful of shows planned for October 2023, January 2024, April 2024, July 2024, and October 2024.

And lastly, it would be remiss of me not to mention that was a BIG week for the Sex and the City spin off because **SPOILER ALERT** Aidan Shaw is finally back with John Corbett reprising his role.

I’m excited to be back on the air with you guys next Friday morning, but for now, I’m looking forward to strolling down Hollywood Boulevard to find the Jonas Brothers’ and Frankie Valli’s stars and taking in the beach in the OC and whatever else comes my way!
