Shows Coming to Boston in 2022

Among all the craziness and changes that we’ve gone through over the last two years, something that stands out amongst the rest for theatergoers was seeing Broadway go dark.

By now, the theater district is back up and running and if you’re looking to get back into the theater, we have some suggestions for you! 2022 has a lot in store for you right here in the Boston area.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • For history and music lovers alike, Hamilton, the musical about Alexander Hamilton that took the world by storm in recent years, is playing at the Boston Opera House through March 12th.
  • If you love Donna Summer and disco, you’ll want to check out Summer: The Donna Summer Musical at the Emerson Colonial Theater now through March 6th.
  • For lovers of Harper Lee and literature, this next one’s for you. To Kill a Mockingbird is playing at the Boston Opera House from April 5th until April 17th.  Now, we know that if To Kill a Mockingbird is one of your favorite novels, you may be a little bit wary of  a stage adaptation, but trust us, the show is well worth it!
  • Next up on our list is for the music lovers (and we know you’re one of them!). Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations brings to life the story of the Temptations and their journey to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. That show will be playing at the Boston Opera House from April 19th through May 1st.
  • Here’s another one for our history lovers: 1776 depicts the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It will be playing from May 15 – July 24th at the Loeb Drama Center.
  • If you’re looking for a fan favorite, we’ve got you covered. Wicked will be playing at the Boston Opera House from June 8th until June 24th. Wicked is the prequel story to the Wizard of Oz and is a guaranteed favorite. Whether you’re just dipping your toes in and looking to see your first Broadway show or this is your hundredth show, Wicked is always a good place to start.
  • Our last two suggestions are for our Disney lovers. Both Cinderella and Anastasia will be playing this summer. Cinderella is being shown at the North Shore Music Theater from July 12th through July 24th, and Anastasia is at the Boston Opera House from August 17th until August 28th.

If you’re not quite ready to be back in the theater yet but you’re looking to get your Broadway fix, be sure to check out the Virtual Broadway Experiences that are being offered right now.

Seven shows are currently offering virtual experiences – Beetlejuice, Aladdin, Anastasia, Mean Girls, Hamilton, Wicked, and Hadestown – and if you buy a ticket, you’ll have the opportunity to meet a cast member from your favorite show from the comfort of your own home.
