If you’re someone who thrives on nostalgia, this week was for you!
Toy Story 5 is in theaters NOW (31 years after the first film, but who’s counting?!) and it’s getting amazing reviews. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, take the family to the movie theater and see the new movie!
Speaking of iconic movies… Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and there’s a new book called Ferris Bueller… You’re My Hero: The Story of the World’s Most Famous Day Off which is on shelves now. It’s a comprehensive behind the scenes look at the making of the movie, written by Jason Klamm.
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are reuniting on Brothers, a comedy series at Apple TV. The series is a riff on the rumor that the two could actually be brothers in real life. The first two episodes will drop on September 23rd, followed by one episode a week until the finale on November 4th. There will be 8 episodes in total.
If you’re looking for a series to watch now, Oasis is on Netflix today. Oasis is similar to The White Lotus (HBO) in that it’s an 8-episode mystery-thriller series about a kidnapping that takes place at a luxurious resort.
Netflix also released the film Voicemails for Isabelle today, starring Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson. It’s advertised as a romcom, and it’s definitely both romantic and comedic, but it also delves into family bonds and dealing with grief. It’s a beautiful film and I can’t recommend it enough (but do have your tissues ready)! You will laugh and you will cry and it’s so worth the watch.
Here are some quick things to look forward to:
- We Were Liars season 2 is OFFICIALLY FILMING!
- There is a Survivor animated movie in the works
- John Green, author of The Fault in our Stars, is releasing a new novel called Hollywood, Ending. It’s his first novel in almost a decade and it’s also his first adult book. The book is about ‘two young actors who get their big break in an Andy Warhol biopic, now forced to navigate their newfound celebrity, loss of privacy, and new love.’.
- Monopoly is releasing two special edition Monopoly board games based off of the book series A Court of Thorns and Roses
- Icebreaker, the novel by Hannah Grace, is become a series at Netflix
- Christopher Jackson is returning to Hamilton this fall as George Washington
See you back here next week for another edition of The Buzz, brought to you by Dini’s tinis!
