Jordyn’s Buzz – October 20th, 2023

Gooood morning, listeners! Happy Friday!

This wasn’t the busiest week in Hollywood, but there are still some exciting things happening!

If you’re a fan of The Hunger Games, the release date for the prequel film The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is fast approaching, and to get in the spirit, Rachel Zegler, one of the stars of the new film, is releasing the single The Hanging Tree today. We first heard this song when Katniss sang it in the Mockingjay film and it’s in this new film that we find out that it was during this time period, the 10th annual Hunger Games – and for reference, the first Hunger Games book took place during the 74th annual Hunger Games – when the song first originated.

Hopefully this song and the trailers that have been released so far for the film will hold you over until the movie hits theaters on November 17th.

Speaking of films, the new Chris Evans and Emily Blunt film Pain Hustlers hits select theaters today and will be on Netflix next Friday!

If you’re a fan of collecting DVDs of your favorite films, Best Buy is planning to phase out sales of physical movies after the holidays, so if you’re someone who loves having the physical copy of a movie, keep in mind that Best Buy won’t be the best place to go anymore. It’s also likely that other companies may follow suit and start phasing out sales as well, so get your DVDs while you still can!

As for television, the Property Brothers have some new programs coming to HGTV and the Peacock sensation Based on a True Story has been renewed for a second season! Actor and comedian Ken Jeong also is staying in network television with the development of his new daytime talk show.

If you’re a reader, Britney Spears’ new tell-all memoir will be released in just a few days. She has not released any promotional copies of the book, nor has she done or will do any press for the memoir, so the contents of the book will be a surprise for everyone. The book and its audiobook, narrated by Michelle Williams, will hit shelves on Tuesday, October 24th.

Lastly, although it’s still the time to be celebrating Halloween, Hallmark Christmas begins tonight, starting with the film Checkin’ It Twice starring Kim Matula and Kevin McGarry. Check out this article for the full schedule of Christmas films this year.

As for Halloween – and probably the most exciting news this week – this year, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original Hocus Pocus film, and in recognition, 4 of the cast members from the original film will be in Salem where they filmed the movie!

Jason Marsden, Thora Birch, Omri Katz, and Vinessa Shaw will be in Salem tonight and tomorrow celebrating and meeting fans!

Tonight, there is a 21+ party with the cast where you will be able to get a pro photo op with the cast members who will then be sticking around all night to socialize, dance, and celebrate! Then tomorrow, they will be in the Salem Common from 12pm – 7pm signing autographs and taking photos.

In addition, there will be tons going on in the city including the Fiesta fair, an artisan market, and the kiddie carnival!
