Cinco De Mayo 2022

It’s crazy to think it’s just about May and time that we’ll be hearing talks of Cinco de Mayo already. 

Cinco de Mayo isn’t a major Holiday here in the US, but it celebrates the day that the Mexican army defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. In the US today, Cinco de Mayo has become a day that commemorates Mexican culture and heritage.

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate around home, we have some suggestions for you.

April 30th

  • Cinco de Mayo Mexican Cuisine Workshop 
    • Mix It Up in Duxbury is hosting a workshop with a professional chef where you will learn how to make a Mexican dinner, and following the workshop, you will have dinner at the restaurant. You’ll also be able to take home recipes from the chef. If you’d like more information or to register for the workshop, you can do so here.
  • Cinco de Mayo FREE Online Paint Party 
    • Linda’s art club will be hosting a free paint workshop at 7pm (EST time) and she’ll teach you how to paint a colorful sombrero and guitar. Visit her site to see more information, view the list of materials that you will need, and learn how to join the session.

May 1st: 

  • Salsa Showdown (Cape Cod Beer, Hyannis MA)
    • Cape Cod Beer is hosting a Salsa Showdown again this year from May 5th – May 12th. They’re working with 3 mid-cape restaurants who are competing against one another to see who has the best salsa. You must order your salsa BY MAY 1ST in order to vote in the contest, and you can find more information on how to do so and how to vote here.
  • 4th Annual Cinco de Mayo 4th Annual 5k 
    • The Kiwanis Club of Bourne-Wareham is hosting their 4th Annual 5k. Proceeds will support local Bourne and Wareham activities. For more information about the race, visit the site here

May 4th

  • Pre-Cinco de Mayo Fiesta & Salsa Lessons (Scorpion Bar, Boston)

May 5th

  • Cinco De Mayo Cookie Decorating Class 
    • ​​Blackbird Baking Co. of Pembroke will be hosting a cooking decorating class at the restaurant Christina’s at 7pm. You don’t need any experience to participate and you’ll learn how to decorate six different cookies and leave with cookie recipes and decorating tips. There will also be a cash bar available, light appetizers, giveaways, and you’ll leave with access to a cookie decorating group. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit this webpage.   • Cinco de Mayo @ Moonrise: The Freight with Sarah Martin 
    • Moonrise Cinemas in Plymouth is hosting The Freight and Sarah Martin for live music, dinner, and drinks. You can buy tickets at the door, but if you’d like to purchase tickets in advance, you can do so here and find more information about the event as well.
  • South Shore Pottery Shop in Abington
    • Cinco de Mayo Ladies Night
      • Just pay your studio fee and you can get 20% of your piece!
    • Cinco de Mayo Cookie Decorating & Piñata Planter Painting
      • The owner of Sweet Standards will teach you how to decorate four of your own Cinco de Mayo themed cookies and you’ll also be able to paint your own llama piñata planter. You must purchase tickets to reserve your seat.

  • Cinco De Mayo Sip & Paint Night 
    • Lamplighter Brewing, Co. in Cambridge is hosting a Sip and Paint Night on Cinco de Mayo where you’ll be able to try Lamplighter’s Mexican Amber Lager and paint a portrait of the iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. You must be 21+ to attend, and your ticket includes all of the items necessary to paint the portrait and a beer. All skill levels are welcome and you can find more information here.
  • It’s Time to Fiesta with David Lee Black 
    • David Lee Black will be showcasing his photography at the Graduate Providence in Providence, RI from May 5th – May 7th with special live performances. This is a free event, but you can register to reserve your place here.
  • Bar Crawls
    • If you’re interested in bar crawls, there are many going on throughout Cinco de Mayo weekend, but we’ll highlight two for you here on Cinco de Mayo itself
