Mexico Board Of Education Fills Vacant Seat During Special Session

The Mexico Board of Education has appointed Dr. Tom Allen to fill a vacant position created by Dustin Pascoe’s resignation last month.

Dr. Thomas Allen was appointed by the board in unanimous decision during a special session tonight (Monday) at Central Office.

He is a 1984 alumni of Mexico High School and retired from public education in July, 2019.

Allen spent 14 years as a superintendent, with the last 8 years in the Sullivan School District.

He also worked as a Guidance Counselor for 8 years and coached football and wrestling.

Dr. Allen is currently the head wrestling coach at the Missouri Military Academy.

Allen has been appointed to serve on the board until April when an election will be held for the seat.

Audrain County Health Department Board Of Health Retains Leadership Positions

The Audrain County Health Department’s Board of Health retains leadership positions.

According to a press release from the department today (Monday), at their October 13th meeting board members retained Dr. Kathleen Weaver as chair of the Board and DayNeisha Shivers will continue in her role as secretary.

Board member Darla Eggers was elected treasurer with Barb Wilson and Jessica Ekern making up the rest of the board.

The contract of the health department’s administrator Craig Brace was also renewed.

Bulldogs Academic Team Competes In Missouri Fall Tournament

According to Coach Dale Schenewerk:

MHS Academic Team went to Mizzou on Saturday, October 23 for the annual Missouri Fall Tournament.

Facing the best teams in the state, MHS went 5 – 5, which was good for 9th out of 24 teams.

All 5 losses came against the top 8 teams in the tournament.

Senior Sydney Moeller led the way, scoring 405 points, including a team-high 9 powers.

Freshman Camden Williams was strong in his varsity debut, scoring 255 points.

Team captain, senior Zack McWilliams scored 140 points.
Mia Moeller (10 points), Jamison Jeffries (5 points), and Carter Blackburn all made their season debuts as well.

The next tournament for the MHS Academic Team is Saturday, November 13th at Sullivan.

St. Louis Cardinals Announce New Manager

The St. Louis Cardinals are introducing Oliver “Oli” Marmol as the team’s manager.

The announcement was made this morning and he becomes the 51st manager in franchise history, and at age 35, he becomes the youngest active manager in Major League Baseball.

Marmol spent 5 seasons managing in the Cardinals farm system from 2012 to 2016.

He most recently served as the Cardinals bench coach the past 3 seasons.

Former manager Mike Shildt was dismissed earlier this month over what Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak called a philosophical difference.

ARRESTS:

Mexico Public Safety reports the arrest of Derek L. Kish on Friday, October 22nd for an Audrain County warrant.

20 year old Bo K. Fisher was arrested on Saturday, for a DWI with a minor in the vehicle, and a careless and imprudent driver in a crash.

18 year old Tzyeshawn A. Stoehle-Palmer was arrested yesterday (Sunday) for a Callaway County warrant.

CALLS FOR SERVICE:

Mexico Public Safety responded to the following calls for service over the weekend starting on Friday, October 22nd:

A fraud on Hazel/Morris/West Street.

Trash dumping at Lakeview Park.

Threats on 1726 East Liberty.

Property damage at West Jackson.

A suicidal subject at the East Monroe apartment building.

Shop lifting at 4820 South Clark.

A missing juvenile on the corner of East Love and Calhoun.

Trespassing at West Monroe.

A stealing or theft on Vine.

Mexico Public Safety responded to the following calls on Saturday:

An assault without injury on North Clark.

Shots fired reported at Oak Lane and the corner of Branchwood Road and Clark.

A careless and imprudent driver on the corner of West Monroe and North Western.

Mexico Public Safety went to these calls yesterday (Sunday):

An assault with injury on West Monroe.

Harassment at Emmons and on North Wade and at East Bolivar and on Emmons.

Threats on Latney.

A domestic physical at Eagle Drive.

Trespassing on West Love.

A house fire set during a domestic disturbance in Mexico early this (Monday) morning is under investigation.

Mexico Public Safety responded to the 600 block of Whitley before 2am and found the fire in and around a bedroom closet.

The fire was contained and put out in that area with the bedroom suffering significant fire, heat, and smoke damage.

Public Safety’s initial investigation indicates that the fire was set during a domestic disturbance in the home.

There were no injuries reported.

The Mexico Bulldogs Football Team has a bye week this week after securing the number one seed in the Class 3 District 5 bracket.

The Bulldogs await the winner of the 4 seed Eldon and 5 seed Southern Boone who play this Friday.

Mexico will host either Eldon or Southern Boone at Hawthorne Heights on Friday, November 5th.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost 27-3 to the Tennessee Titans on the road yesterday (Sunday).

Patrick Mahomes was pulled in the 4th quarter despite clearing the NFL’s concussion protocol after taking a shot to the head.

Head Coach Andy Reid and Mahomes expect the quarterback to practice this week and play in next Monday night’s game against the New York Giants.

Yesterday’s game marked the first time in Mahome’s career that he went without a touchdown in a regular-season game.

The Chiefs fell to 3-4 on the season.

The St. Louis Blues will look to remain undefeated on the year when they host the Los Angeles Kings for a 2nd consecutive game tonight (Monday) at the Enterprise Center.

The Blues are off to a 4-0 start for the just the third time in franchise history.

They have never began a season with a five-game winning streak.

One Person Flown To The Hospital After An Accident In Callaway County

One person was taken to the hospital by helicopter after an accident in Callaway County on Saturday morning.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol a truck was traveling westbound along County Road 292, when it hit a deer and went off the road.

The truck then hit the ground, overturned and driver 55 year old William Cockrell was thrown out of the truck.

Cockrell was flown to the University Hospital. His passenger 58 year old Jeannette Perkins-Martin had moderate injuries and was taken to the University Hospital by ambulance.

The Mexico Bulldogs finished the final week of the regular season strong with a 60-14 win over Warrenton on the road last (Friday) night. Michael White scored 3 rushing touchdowns and finished with 125 yards on the ground. Ty Sims put up 150 yards rushing with 2 scores. Andrew Runge had 57 yards rushing and a touchdown. And Anthony Shivers with 72 yards rushing in the game with 2 touchdowns. Mexico’s offense finished with 471 yards. The Bulldogs defense forced 3 turnovers including interceptions from Andrew Runge, Matt McCurdy and a 65 yard pick six from Michael White. The Bulldogs defense held Warrenton scoreless in the second half. Mexico finishes the regular season at 7-2 and have earned a first round bye in Districts.

Week 9 Friday Night Light’s Scores

Blair Oaks dominated Osage 71-43.

Hallsville completed their undefeated season by outlasting Boonville 36-30.

Bowling Green finishes the regular season undefeated taking out Cardinal Ritter 24-20.

California winners over Southern Boone 66-39.

It was Kirksville 28 Capital City 6.

Centralia shut out Palmyra 12-0.

Hannibal goes undefeated in the regular season with a 42-26 victory over Battle.

Francis Howell shut out Rock Bridge 30-0.

Eldon in a squeaker 42-41 against Versailles.

Fulton loses to Malta Bend 37-7.

Marceline 30 Harrisburg 16.

Helias blasted Vianney 47-9.

Jefferson City wins 50 to 37 over Ft. Zumwalt West.

Mark Twain 40 Louisiana 13.

Macon beats Clark County 54-30.

Mexico secured a number one seed in their District bracket with a 60-14 victory against Warrenton.

Salisbury shuts MMA 50-0.

Troy Buchanan 48-14 over Moberly.

Montgomery County picks up a win on the road against North Callaway 32-16.

The St. Louis Blues will play their home opener tonight (Saturday) when they play the Los Angeles Kings.

The Blues have started the season off 3-0.

The Houston Astros punched their ticket to the World Series after defeating the Boston Red Sox 5-0 last (Friday) night.

The Astros move on after closing out the Bo Sox 4 games to 2.

The Atlanta Braves could close out the Los Angeles Dodgers in game 6 of the National League Championship Series tonight.

Mexico Bulldogs Secure Number One Seed In District Bracket With Big Win Over Warrenton

The Mexico Bulldogs secured a number one seed in their District bracket after defeating the Warrenton Warriors 60-14 tonight on the road.

The Bulldogs offense would score on their first possession of the game.

Mexico would need just 2 plays to go 69 yards capped off by an Anthony Shivers 13 yard touchdown run.

It was 7-0 Mexico at the 10 minute 11 second mark of the first quarter.

The Bulldogs would turn the ball over on their second possession.

Warrenton would take advantage getting the ball on the 32 yard line, and scoring on a 20 yard pass play.

The Warriors were unable to convert the 2 point conversion.

And Mexico led 7-6 at the 5:49 mark in the first quarter.

After that it was all Bulldogs.

Michael White would score on a 9 yard run at 11:52 in the 2nd quarter and it was 14-6 Bulldogs.

Ty Sims kept the ball and scored on a 37 yard quarterback keep.

It was 20-6 Mexico.

Michael White would then score his 2nd touchdown of the game on a 30 yard rush into the end zone at 6:57 in the 2nd quarter.

It was 27-6 Bulldogs.

Warrenton would put points on the board with one minute and 4 seconds left in the 2nd quarter on a 1 yard quarterback keep.

And it was 27-14 Mexico.

The Bulldogs would score again before halftime, when Michael White scored his third touchdown of the game on a 17 yard rush into the end zone with just 33 seconds left in the second quarter.

Mexico would take a 34-14 lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs ramped up on offense once again in the second half.

Anthony Shivers would get his second td of the game at 9:40 in the 3rd quarter on a 5 yard rushing touchdown.

Mexico extended their lead over Warrenton 40-14.

Ty Sims scored his second rushing touchdown of the game on a 12 yard quarter back keep at 6:41 in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs were up 41-14.

Andrew Runge made it 53-14 Mexico at the 4:54 mark in the third quarter on a 7 yard rushing score.

And the final score of the game was provided by the Bulldogs defense when Michael White intercepted the ball and ran it 65 yards for a pick six.

Andrew Runge and Matt McCurdy also had interceptions for the Bulldogs.

Mexico’s defense held Warrenton scoreless in the 2nd half.

Mexico will have a bye week coming up and a home game upcoming in the 2nd round of Districts on Friday, November 5th against an opponent to be determined.

Roadwork Planned For Highway 63 Next Week

MoDot is announcing concrete replacements to Highway 63 north of Columbia for next week.

The work will start Monday and be complete by Thursday evening.

The work includes north- and southbound lanes of 63 between Brown Station Road and Route B and will have one lane closed each way and the southbound entrance ramp from Brown School Road onto Highway 63.

The work will be done from 8 each morning until 5 each evening and signs will be in place to direct motorists.

CAR ACCIDENTS:

A 2 car accident reported on Morris at Hazel Place yesterday (Thursday) morning.

According to the accident report it happened when a vehicle driven by 28 year old Brian Dover of Mexico failed to keep a proper lookout when entering the intersection and collided with a vehicle driven by 64 year old Douglas Duchesne of Mexico.

No injuries were reported.
