WE WERE TRACKING THOSE STORMS THIS MORNING AND STORM COMMAND AND NORMALLY IN MAY IT’S TORNADOES HAIL AND WIND THAT WERE CONCERNED ABOUT BUT IT WAS LIGHTNING THAT STRUCK THAT HOME AND SHOCKED THE WOMAN INSIDE LIGHTNING NORMALLY STRIKES THE TALLEST OBJECT CONNECTED TO THE GROUND AND NEIGHBORS TOLD CARRIED TWO BOLTS HIT HER HOUSE CAUSING THE DECKING TO CATCH ON FIRE AND SENT SHINGLES FLYING ALL THE WAY TO THE CURB. CARRIE WAS TEACHING AN ONLINE CLASS ON THIS LAPTOP AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT. THE LIGHTNING CAME THROUGH IT SHOCK RIVER AND THE COMPUTER STILL WORKS. TERRY CALLED HER HUSBAND CRAIG AND HE RUSHED HOME FROM DEL CITY TO FIND HOLES IN THE ROOF THE GUTHRIE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED QUICKLY AND MADE SURE THE FIRE DIDN’T DAMAGE THE REST OF THE HOME. YOU WOULDN’T THINK THAT A LAPTOP WOULD DO THAT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY SHE EXPERIENCED TODAY IT VERY MUCH CAN SO THIS LOOK AT RADAR FROM THIS MORNING. THE LIGHTNING STRIKE THAT HIT AND THAT’S A IMPORTANT REMINDER. DON’T BE USING ELECTRICAL DEVICES THAT YOU HAVE TO PLUG INTO THE WALL IF IT’S WIRELESS. Normally in May, Oklahomans are concerned about tornadoes, hail and wind. But during a storm on Tuesday morning, lighting struck a home in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and shocked a woman inside.Lightning normally strikes the tallest thing connected to the ground.Neighbors told the woman that two bolts hit the house, caused the deck to catch fire and sent shingles flying all the way to the curb. The woman, named Carrie, was teaching an online class on a laptop, and the lightning came through it and shocked her.Carrie called her husband, and he rushed home from Del City to find holes in the roof.The Guthrie Fire Department arrived quickly and made sure the fire didn't damage the rest of the home."You wouldn't think that a laptop would do that, but unfortunately, as she experienced today, it very much can," Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow said.It's important to remember not to use electrical devices that have been plugged into the wall during a lightning storm. The device is OK to use if it's wireless.You also should avoid taking a bath or a shower during a storm because doing so can put you at risk.
