Come May 16, London will become the first city in the world to have a floating pool in the sky.According to EcoWorld Ballymore, the pool developers, the "Sky Pool" will be "the largest freestanding acrylic pool structure in the world."The pool will be 82 feet long and will stretch across the roofs of the Embassy Garden, a high-end residential and business complex in London's Nine Elms neighborhood. The pool's design team consists of structural engineer Eckersley O’Callaghan, HAL Architects, and acrylics fabricator Reynolds Polymer Technology, all of whom performed hours of vigorous strength testing on the pool structure to ensure its overall safety. At 110 feet up in the sky, "once you swim off, you can look right down. It will be like flying," O’Callaghan said in a statement. The planning for the floating sky pool started back in 2013, when the creative team at EcoWorld Ballymore began to discuss where exactly they wanted to put an outdoor pool in the Embassy Gardens complex. After much discussion, they came to the conclusion that the only way to have a sufficient amount of room for the pool they would have to make it a "sky pool." Now, after many years in the making, the "Sky Pool" will soon make its debut on May 16 and will be open exclusively to residents and guests of the Embassy Garden, who can also enjoy the accompanying Sky Deck, which has a bar, spa, and restaurant. Quite a step up (literally) from your average pool deck!
