School cafeteria employee saves co-worker's life after giving the Heimlich maneuver
A cafeteria worker at a Florida middle school used the Heimlich maneuver to save a co-worker who was choking on food. Kaneshia Stokes is a humble hero.
Stokes knew her co-worker at Ormond Beach Middle School was in trouble a few weeks ago when she glanced up from washing dishes and saw her on her knees grabbing her chest.
That's when Stokes physically picked the woman up and performed the Heimlich.
The school, the district and a number of organizations recently celebrated Ms. Stokes with a trophy, a basket of goodies, and a check for $2,000.
"I sometimes feel like I'm put on Earth to help others. Regardless of what it is. I've been feeling like that since I was younger," Stokes said.
Ms. Stokes is also a finalist for the state's School Lunch Hero Award.
