Bolsa Knolls middle school in Salinas will soon be called John Gutierrez middle school, after the educator who helped open the school 11 years ago. “We're very very humbled by the fact that they decided to name the school after my brother because I think he really deserves it,” said Rachel Torres, Gutierrez’s sister.The school will be renamed after Gutierrez who served as the Bobcats first principal until his unexpected passing last October due to COVID-19.“He might not be here physically but his name, his memory, his dedication will be here forever and I think that's big,” said Neil Patel, board member of the Santa Rita union school district.Gutierrez spent his whole teaching career in the Santa Rita school district, nearly three decades.
