Salinas High School graduate and former San Diego Padres minor league prospect Nathan Martorella is included in a pending trade that would send Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez to San Diego.

Salinas High School graduate and former San Diego Padres minor league prospect Nathan Martorella is included in a pending trade that would send Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez to San Diego.

A proposed blockbuster trade in Major League Baseball would send Salinas High School graduate and San Diego Padres prospect Nathan Martorella to the Miami Marlins. As reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan, the pending deal is centered around Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez. Arraez is a two-time all-star. The Marlins are sending him to the Padres in exchange for three prospects. According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, Martorella is among the players being sent to Miami. The two sides are reportedly finalizing the details of the transaction. Martorella played college baseball at Cal. He was selected by the Padres in the 5th round of the 2022 MLB Draft and has spent this season playing for their Double-A affiliate, the San Antonio Missions. In San Antonio, Martorella is batting .292 and has hit two home runs.
