Report: Warriors' Draymond Green commits to playing for Team USA this summer
-Video of Carmel Valley OlympianFresh off his fourth career All-Defensive First Team award, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has committed to playing for Team USA this summer, according to The Athletic.Green, 31, averaged 7 points, 8.9 assists, 7.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game in 2020-21. He joins Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard as an early commitment to the national team. The Athletic report strongly implies that Green and Lillard are shoo-ins for the finalized Team USA roster that will participate in the Tokyo Olympics, which are still scheduled to begin on July 23.In theory, NBA players are supposed to compete at training camp, starting July 6, to make the Team USA roster. It's possible Green and Lillard snagged guaranteed selections in exchange for their early commitments, since lots of stars are participating in the playoffs and unlikely to partake in the Olympics. It's also possible that Team USA ultimately opts to eliminate any training camp drama and just pluck its entire roster before next month.Speaking of Olympic hopefuls, Green's teammate Steph Curry would be a no-brainer for Tokyo, but he hasn't yet indicated whether he'll go. The Athletic previously reported that he's "50-50." He's played in the FIBA games before, but never the Olympics. Maybe Green signing on will sweeten the deal for Curry and convince him to head overseas.
