'Patience is required': Expect long lines at airports this holiday weekend

Nearly six in 10 Americans are ready to try something new while on vacation this summer, a study commissioned by RV rental platform outdoorsy and conducted by one poll found that people want to try different foods, go bungee jumping or camping and even a cross country road trip to see their best friend. Almost 1/5 of respondents said they want to go see a new state or city, while more than a third said they want to go see family in preparation for the summer, many have started creating a summer bucket list that included waterskiing, wakeboarding, surfing and other outdoor activities. 62% of respondents for the outdoorsy study revealed that they really want to spend some time outdoors. Almost the same amount of people have put together shopping lists frequently citing camping gear, a tent and RV because of the pandemic, many feel driving is the safest travel option, followed by cruising and flying. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says people traveling for Memorial Day weekend should be patient because there will be long lines at U.S. airports.The Transportation Security Administration has been in a hiring surge so it can be ready for increased travel this weekend and over the summer as the nation emerges from the coronavirus pandemic, Mayorkas told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Friday."People will see lines because there's going to be a tremendous amount of people traveling this weekend," Mayorkas said.
