Palma graduate Drew Dalman is preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft. Dalman was a two-year starting center at Stanford University. As a senior, Dalman won All-Pac 12 Honors. He declared for the NFL Draft after the Cardinal finished their season. “I just got to the end of the season, pulled my head out of the sand and looked around. It seemed like the right time. I felt like I was ready emotionally and mentally," Dalman said. Since declaring for the draft, Dalman has been training at California Strength in San Ramon. He also worked out for NFL scouts at Stanford’s pro day. Dalman measured 6’3 and just under 300 pounds. The offensive lineman showed off his athleticism, running a 5.00 40-yard dash and completing 33 repetitions on the bench press. Of the pro day, Dalman said, “The competitor in me knows that I could have done a little bit better. It was a good day but not an exceptional day.” In addition to his work on the field, Dalman has also interviewed with NFL teams and undergone a series of exams testing his football knowledge. He credits Stanford and head coach David Shaw’s program for his preparation. “Stanford runs very much a pro-style offense. The things that I learned at college and we ran in college almost translates one-to-one with these NFL teams. I think that has really prepared me a ton," he said. Football runs in Dalman’s family. His father, Chris, played for the Stanford Cardinal before being drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1993 NFL Draft. Chris won a Super Bowl with the 49ers in 1995, serving as the team’s starting center. After retiring from the NFL in 1999, Chris moved to coaching football and shared his experiences with his son. “He was my coach for the most formative years of my life, so a lot of my technique is his technique. There is a lot of carry over there," Dalman said. The first round of the NFL Draft begins Thursday, April 29 at 5 p.m. on Central Coast ABC. The second and third rounds will air on Friday at 4 p.m. The final four rounds of the draft will begin Saturday at 9 a.m.
