Monterey Bay Aquarium Reopen means more business for Cannery Row
The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a well-known main attraction in Monterey. Reeling people in from all over the world is a benefit for surrounding businesses on Cannery Row. Now that the aquarium has opened back up, businesses are hopeful that it’ll help with the economic bounce back. Restaurant manager, Gerry Samedio said, “Seeing the aquarium open up is going to be an impact for us. We’re a family-friendly restaurant, so we always bring in and cater to those types of groups so it should be a good one.” Even though the aquarium just opened back up, businesses say they’re already seeing a little more foot traffic. Chris Sosa has worked on Cannery Row for years. He says he’s well aware of the impact that the Aquarium has on businesses. “People around the world come and we get like literally thousands of people so it’s great. They help a lot.” Sosa said.Sosa said that he, too, has seen a slight increase, not as much as he’d like but he’s still hopeful. Overall, shops and restaurants are ready for what the Monterey Bay Aquarium will bring for them.
