Mileage milestone: Woman's 1999 Toyota Camry hits half-a-million miles
Vehicle registration data from automotive research groups shows roughly one-quarter of cars on the road are at least 16 years old — but how many have half-a-million miles? One 1999 Toyota Camry owner raised in New York state reached that mileage milestone this week, nearly two decades after they purchased the sedan. Driving through a stoplight in Ticonderoga, New York, on Tuesday, 77-year-old Edna Weber, who now lives in Florida, said she saw her odometer tick above 500,000 miles. She then brought the car to a Toyota dealership in St. Albans to have the mileage verified. "Never in my wildest dreams," Weber said, describing the milestone. "Until I kept driving it and putting miles on it and it performed so well and just did general maintenance and it just kept going."She continued, "It's proof that when you do maintenance, you take care of something, who knows how long it can last and still be of good quality."Weber said she first got the Camry used in 2002 with roughly 40,000 miles on it. As far as future plans go? Weber said the two plan to grow old together. Her plan is to keep driving the Camry all around the country.
