our top story. We are taking a look at Memorial Day celebrations across the country, the state and the central coast. Many taking advantage of the good weather and heading out to the beach up and down the California coast beaches very crowded in santa Monica and southern California. Stark contrast last year when Los Angeles County was one of the hardest hit areas by Covid in santa cruz. Umbrellas dotted the beaches near the boardwalk as people enjoy the sand, the surf and the loosening of covid 19 restrictions and in Monterey County beaches with more and more people vaccinated. Many use this Memorial Day as an opportunity to get out and enjoy themselves. Actually, News Eight reporter Ariana has also spent some time at the warf in Monterey checking out the Memorial Day crowds. Yeah, I'm on the fisherman's warf or crowds were packed with out of towners and tourists. Great for business but also challenging. It's been a very good Memorial Day weekend and we just go, we're taking people as we could handle them to the crew. We have because we're not full capacity with the employees. Business is booming on the fisherman's warf. This memorial day sam a curio says it's great, but also challenging for businesses that are still short staff and can only operate at a certain capacity. So we're doing a lot of reservations, turning a lot of people away, which is, it's hard to do, but we do it. Look, I can fill these up in two minutes if I wanted, but I don't, I don't have the servers, but my curio says it definitely beats last year. Thanks to see everybody out again last year at this time we're doing takeout. That's it. We had a little clam chowder booth right here. So look at the difference whether it's to beat the heat or just to visit. People from all around the country are in town. We've never really been to California before. We're loving it. We got to see the sea lions out and about walk around. Um, yeah, definitely a big change from this year. It's nice to see everyone out and about again. We come from san Jose where it's pretty hot. So we're running away from the heat right now. People have been itching for a normal holiday and today people say that's exactly what they got. A great Memorial Day weekend. This is our first time out in a long time. Last year, Memorial Day. We were home, so we weren't doing much, we barbecued, but we didn't really go anywhere. We're here, so we're out. We're seeing we're living, we're breathing the ocean air like, come on, people look at this, this busy memorial day, helped with the economic bounce back and give people a taste of normalcy reporting in Monterey Arianna also, KCPW Action News AA
