Driver rescues man who was being compressed in the back of a garbage truck
A man was rescued Friday after being compressed in the back of a garbage truck.
According to police, the driver of the garbage truck noticed something moving on the cameras in the back as he drove down. That's when he stopped and called police.
The man in the back of the truck told police and the driver that he had somehow fallen into a dumpster that then got picked up and dumped into the truck, police said.
"He was going into the dumpster at the location (the driver) was last at to retrieve an item he dropped in there. That is the story we were able to get," said Sean Riley, deputy police chief in Framingham, Massachusetts.
The man suffered compression injuries and cuts after having been apparently compacted among the trash, police said.
"The driver pulled over immediately when he discovered what happened," Riley said.
The 38-year-old man was flown to a hospital by a medical rescue helicopter after the 11:30 a.m. incident, Riley said.
He is expected to survive.
