First Lady Jill Biden tours preschool with Duchess Kate during visit to England
First Lady Jill Biden and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, met for the first time Friday as they toured a preschool in southwestern England.
Biden and the former Kate Middleton visited with 4- and 5-year-olds at Connor Downs Academy in Hayle, England. Biden carried a bowl of carrots when they went outside to see the rabbits which the children are caring for.
The women also took part in a discussion about early childhood education.
Biden is a longtime English teacher who focuses on education, as does Kate, a mother of three young children.
"[Early education] is the foundation of everything," Biden said. "I can tell you that as a teacher in the upper levels, if they don't have a good foundation, they fall so far behind. So this is amazing to see what these children are doing, and how far advanced they are at 4 and 5 years old."
The first lady is traveling with her husband, President Joe Biden, who is attending the G-7 Summit. The summit opens Friday in Carbis Bay, England.
