In Moss Landing federal and state wildlife officials are investigating the death of a southern sea otter.The otter was found dead in an illegal fishing trap on Zmudowski State Beach on April 18. Officials say it appears the trap, used for crayfish or baitfish, washed up on the beach.Southern sea otters are protected as threatened species under federal and state law.Anyone with information is asked to call the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
