Explore Outdoors: This Santa Cruz County bridge is worth the trip
not far from the waves. In the surf. Near the santa Cruz boardwalk is a bridge unlike any other 146 miles southwest of Sacramento is the historic Felton Bridge, built in the 18 nineties. This 80 ft long, 35 ft tall wooden structure is believed to be the tallest covered bridge in the country For 45 years. It stood as the only way for wagons to cross the San Lorenzo River in and out of the town of Felton in 1937, it became a pedestrian only bridge and was featured in multiple movies of that era. This bridge, according to some historians, is also one of the first examples of a Western bridge saved from destruction by preservationist who protested and saved it from planned destruction in 1938. Then in 1982, winter storms caused significant damage and a five year effort to restore it to quote its original elegance. Today it is both a state and national historic place. But keep in mind if you visit this spot just seven miles away from the waves of Santa Cruz Boardwalk Beware.
