Commercial building in Marina burns in early morning fire
Several fire agencies responded to a structure fire Saturday morning at a large commercial building. According to Marina Fire Department, the call came in at 5:53 a.m. Saturday morning to Reservation Road at California Avenue. Marina Fire said a manager at Monterey Bay Laundry, located at 407 Reservation Road, called 911 to report smoke in the building. Crews arrived to fire through the roof and extending out the back. The fire reportedly wiped out the roof. The roof was made of tar and gravel, likely adding to the plume of black smoke during the time of the blaze, according to Marina Fire Department. The fire was contained to the Monterey Bay Laundry business, according to Marina Fire. Several other businesses within the building complex sustained smoke and water damage. Other companies in the building include WM. B Saleh Painting Company and Barak Construction. Barak Construction said they are not affected by the fire because the building didn't have any of their equipment or materials inside. The company said the owner of the building allowed them to keep their sign up, although the inside had been cleared. Fire officials say they do not suspect foul play but the cause is still under investigation. No injuries have been reported.
