Carmel-by-the-Sea burger restaurant suffers 'significant damage' after fire
The Monterey Fire Department reported a structure fire at a burger bar on Tuesday afternoon resulted in "significant fire and structural damage" to the business. The fire occurred around 2:20 p.m. at Carmel Burger Bar in the Carmel Plaza on Junipero Avenue and Ocean Avenue. Reports of smoke inside the building were made while the business was open, read a media release. Firefighters tackled the fire that started in the kitchen behind the stove in the wall and crawl space. The fire was contained in the kitchen and did not spread to nearby businesses. "The building sustained significant fire and structural damage with an initial estimated loss set at approximately $175,000," said firefighters in a media release.The cause of the fire is being investigated but is not considered suspicious. No firefighters or civilians were reported to be injured.
