spared from a pot of boiling water Inside this saltwater tank sits the new star of the Virginia Living Museum as a person who really, really loves all lobsters. Um it was very exciting, just like her name tag shows brit sorensen training and Enrichment coordinator is Loony for lobsters. Lobsters are very underrated. People typically walk by a tank with lobsters in it and they mostly think, oh that looks like it, be tasty. Look at that big lobster, that's kind of crazy, it's scary. But what pastor buys will soon see on display is freckles adorned with golden speckles. This kind of lobster is actually incredibly rare. It's one of the rarest kinds calico or orangey colored lobsters or any yellowish coloration on them. Only happens in about one and 30 million lobsters, which is ridiculous. The curiously colored crustacean caught the eye of the cooks at red lobster recently in Manassas. They saw him and immediately thought this is not normal, this is something new and special, special enough to be spared from being served as a meal with the famous cheddar biscuits, red lobster called the conservation experts. Instead, it's really great that they saw that and saw the opportunity to really not only help this animal out and give this animal at home, but also to provide it with a good home that also contributes to the education and conservation of natural things. Sorensen says, freckles speckles come from a protein deficiency, which also makes him prone to predators. This coloration in here would show more than the natural blue, green or brown coloration, no word on freckles age or how big he will get. But one thing Britt can confirm is that he's savvy and he's smart lobsters. Some scientists actually believe they may be almost as intelligent as an octopus. Freckles will now get used to his new home in a quarantine period before showing off his snazzy shell to the outside world. He's an amazing tool for education. We're very excited to be able to show him to people

"It's one of the rarest kinds. According to Sorensen, the lobster's special speckles are due to a protein deficiency that makes him more vulnerable to predators. "This coloration in here would show more than blue-green or brown coloration," Sorensen said. Sorensen isn't sure how old Freckles is or how large he'll get but says some scientists think these types of lobsters are almost as intelligent as an octopus."He's an amazing tool for education," she said.
