A woman was killed and a man was injured after a suspected DUI driver crashed into them in Hollister. A man and a woman were walking their dog along Sunnyslope Road Sunday evening when a man crashed into them, Hollister police reported. Investigators say that Manuel Martinez Vazquez, 23, was driving a vehicle while drunk when he drove off the roadway, overcorrected, and then swerved across incoming traffic before striking the two pedestrians. Witnesses told police that the man tried to push the woman out of the way of the oncoming vehicle, but they were still both hit. First responders attempted to save the woman's life but she was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The man survived the crash. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of family. Vazquez, who had a suspended license for a previous DUI, was booked in jail for manslaughter and DUI charges. His bail was set at $1,250,000. Anyone with any information is asked to call Detective Bryce Morgan at 636-4330.
