Happy (second day of) May!
We might be diving into spring, but this was a sloooowww week in Hollywood. There were a few announcements of things to look forward to, but not very much happened in Hollywood itself this week.
To start, I need to bring up something that made me laugh this morning: the People Puzzler. Today was the first day I’ve ever seen the People Puzzler (very similar to the New York Times Crossword), so maybe I’m just a little behind on the times, but I was thrilled to see today’s puzzle because it was Joshua Jackson themed!
I don’t know if they always have their puzzles centralized around celebrities, but as a Dawson’s Creek fan, I’ve been loving all the love Hollywood’s been showing Joshua Jackson lately, so I ran to solve this puzzle. If you’re a crossword fan, go play now. It’ll probably be a pretty easy solve for you!
Onto more serious matters… If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, check out the new Netflix series The Four Seasons (not about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, much to my dismay). Fortunately though, I have heard very good things about this new series which stars Steve Carell and Tina Fey.
The show follows three married couples who have a tradition of traveling together, only, their tradition gets a little bit messy when one of those couples breaks up. Check out the trailer below!
It’s also a pretty big weekend for movies: Thunderbolts* is now in theaters, Another Simple Favor is now streaming on Prime, Rust is available to buy or rent on Amazon and is in select theaters, Drop is also available to buy or rent on Amazon and is in select theaters, and Black Bag is now on Peacock.
As for TV, although Desperate Housewives was widely praised in its day, there hasn’t been much talk of bringing the series back over the years… Until now.
There is allegedly a Desperate Housewives reboot in the works called Wisteria Lane which will focus on ‘5 new neighborhood frenemies’. Kerry Washington is tied to the project as an executive producer. It is pegged as being very similar to the original series, but with new characters.
Something else you can look forward to is the film She Gets it From Me which is set to star Rachel Zegler and Marisa Tomei as a mother/daughter duo. You can read more about that film here.
If you’re a Broadway fan, I’m sure you’re up to date on the Tony Awards nominations, but if you’re not, you can see the full list of nominees here.
There are definitely some snubs in there – most notably the fact that Othello, Denzel Washington, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Kieran Culkin didn’t make the cut. What surprised me more though was that Redwood (starring Idinia Menzel) also didn’t make the cut.
Personally, I LOVED Redwood and I was quite surprised when I did some further research that Redwood has gotten a lot of mixed reviews that leaned more toward negative than positive.
Redwood also announced just this morning that it will be closing on May 18th, which again, came as a surprise to me. To my knowledge, Redwood was supposed to be open through August, but after the Tony nominations (and I’m not sure if there’s any correlation), they chose to close the curtain on the show.
On a brighter note, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2025 Class was announced this week, The Bear will be coming back for its fourth season this summer, and if you loved White Lotus this season, join in on the conversation about what you think the next season might be about and who might star in the season.
If you’re looking for a concert, Bryan Adams, Pat Benatar, and Neil Giraldo will be at the TD Garden on October 26th and tickets are on sale now! You can buy them here.
Lastly, we are just 3 months away from the Freakier Friday release and EW did a cover story on the new Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis film – check it out now! And if you’re a movie fan and want some fun facts on some movies we all know and love, check out the pieces on Back to the Future and Twilight!
See you back here next week – you’ve been reading The Buzz on Easy 99.1, brought to you by Dini’s Tinis – Martinis in a Can!
