Another Friday, another edition of The Buzz!
TV fans… This was our week!
After many, many, MANY months, we got our first look at the Prime series We Were Liars! The show will premiere on Prime on June 18th – I’m so excited we can finally talk about this!!
I’ve been waiting for this series for years (yes, years!) and I’ve been sitting on this premiere day for weeks now, so I’m so happy it’s finally out in the open. The series is based off the book by E. Lockhart and it follows Cadence Sinclair in the aftermath of a traumatic accident on her family’s private island. The book is an absolute whirlwind and I truly don’t think you’ll see the ending coming.
If I remember correctly, showrunners Julie Plec and Carina MacKenzie advised viewers to not read the book prior to watching the series IF they haven’t read the book already, that way, the surprise ending remains a shock to them, but if you do want to check out the book, you can find it here.
For exclusive first look images, check out this article on Entertainment Weekly. This show and these writers are so close to my heart, I genuinely got emotional reading this piece, so consider yourself warned! You can also check out the show’s teaser below.
You might not know many of the names in the cast yet, but trust me, after this, YOU WILL! The show is led by Emily Alyn Lind who plays Cadence. Emily is also the narrator of the re-recording of the We Were Liars audiobook! Other standout cast members include Shubham Maheshwari (his first role ever!), Esther McGregor, Candice King, and Joseph Zada.
Zada is set to star in the Netflix series East of Eden alongside Florence Pugh and he was also just cast as Haymitch Abernathy in Sunrise on the Reaping, the newest installment in The Hunger Games universe! Also set to star in that film are Whitney Peak and McKenna Grace.
Another highly anticipated Prime series is The Summer I Turned Pretty, which will air its final season this summer beginning on July 16th. The teaser for that series was also dropped this week. When I tell you I got CHILLS watching this teaser… just wait. The END will get you like it got me.
Fans have also been counting down to the premiere of the new season of Wednesday on Netflix, which will drop its first part on Wednesday, August 6th and its second part on Wednesday, September 3rd. Check out the teaser below.
Stranger Things has also been in the headlines again because the Broadway production is officially open on Broadway now. Many of the Netflix series’ cast members were in attendance for opening night. The stage production is a prequel to the show on Netflix.
There is also an animated Stranger Things series in the works called Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85. For reference, the show began in 1983 and will conclude in 1987.
They haven’t said much about the new spin off, but the goal is for the show to be in the same vein as Saturday morning cartoons.
If you’re looking for something you can watch now, the final season of You dropped on Netflix yesterday! You can watch the entire season now to see how Joe’s story finally concludes.
If you were a fan of Prince, check out this Rolling Stone article that’s circulating right now, just after the nine year anniversary of his passing.
The Brady Bunch has also been in the news quite a bit lately, check out this new article that looks at the mystery behind Carol’s ex-husband.
Although there are tons of TV announcement about things we can look forward to – like The Carrie TV series, an Animal Farm animated series, a CIA (FBI offshoot) starring Tom Ellis, and a new season of Sweet Magnolias on Netflix – we also learned this week that neither The Neighborhood spin-off or the second season of Poppa’s House are moving forward.
As for movies, there is the potential for a third Beetlejuice movie, Toy Story 5 is in the works, Jeanine Mason is starring in a new generational family drama called The Man Who Changed the World alongside Christopher Lowell and Wallace Shawn, and the trailer for the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie dropped.
Romance writer Emily Henry released a new book this week called Great Big Beautiful Life and she spoke a lot this week about writing, check it out here! 5/6 of her books are also in the works to become shows or movies, check out which ones here.
The audiobook for the Wicked novel is also being re-recorded and this time, Cynthia Erivo is going to be the narrator!
Lastly, Paul Rudd was in a new Nintendo commercial which will bring you right back to his ‘90s Nintendo commercial which you can see here!
