Happy April!!
As we head into spring, Hollywood’s getting busy again! There’s so much to talk about, so click here to listen to the extended podcast!
If you’re looking for new music, check out the new Elton John and Brandi Carlile album that was released today called Who Believes in Angels?
This last week has also been a big week for books. Romance powerhouse Abby Jimenez released a new book on Tuesday called Say You’ll Remember Me and also opened up about her experience as a bakery owner – check out the article here!
It was also announced this week that the inaugural Aspen Literary Festival is planned for the end of September with 40 authors set to participate. Book of the Month is putting the festival together and already have authors like Elin Hilderbrand, Jasmine Guillory, Bonnie Garmus, Kevin Kwan, and more scheduled to speak.
The goal is for this festival to be the ‘literary love child’ of Sundance and South by Southwest and be an event that can connect readers and authors.
As CinemaCon goes on in Las Vegas, more and more movie announcements keep rolling in.
One of the biggest ones is the casting announcement for the Beatles movies that are in the works from Sam Mendes. We now have confirmation that we will see Paul Mescal as Paul, Joseph Quinn as George, Barry Keoghan as Ringo, and Harris Dickinson as John in the four films that are on the way.
The films – each told from a different band members’ perspective – are going to be filmed during one entire year and then released in theaters over the course of April 2028. Mendes is calling the release the first “bingeable” moviegoing experience. There is a specific order in which he recommends watching the films, but he hasn’t said what that order is yet.
The most info that we have so far is the film’s official logline which reads: Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary. The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event. In theaters April 2028.
We also got additional updates on Sunrise on the Reaping, the new installment in the Hunger Games series. We’ve known the film is set for a November 20th, 2026 theatrical release, and we’ve learned that Billy Ray, who wrote the first Hunger Games Film, is penning this script and it will be directed by Francis Lawrence, the director of every Hunger Games film aside from the first one. Shooting is expected to begin in July.
Check out the video below to see the first teaser of the film!
As for theater this week, we learned that there is an autobiography about legendary Broadway musical producer Jeffrey Seller coming called Theatre Kid: A Broadway Memoir. Seller is the producer of productions such as Hamilton, Rent, Avenue Q, In the Heights, and more. The audiobook of this book is narrated by a lot of familiar Broadway faces including Lin Manuel Miranda, Darren Criss, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Annaleigh Ashford and more. Check out this article for more info.
A film adaption from another legendary Broadway figure is on the way as well: Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. The film is helmed by Sony Pictures Classics, but no release dates have been announced yet. The production stars Johnathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe, and Lindsay Mendez.
There is also another film adaption of Merrily We Roll Along coming as well from director Richard Linklater starring Paul Mescal, Ben Platt, and Beanie Feldstein – talk about a star studded cast! Paul Mescal is going to be busy these next few years, but I couldn’t be happier for him!
Lastly, talks of a Dawson’s Creek reunion have been happening again lately, but I’m not quite sure the articles are as straightforward as they’re trying to make it seem.
Busy Phillips, who was only on the show in seasons 5 and 6, said that she, Michelle Williams, and Katie Holmes have been trying to plan a reunion and clear their schedules to see James Van Der Beek, who played the show’s titular character, amidst his health battle. While the article was trying to make it seem as though a reunion was potentially coming in the way of a new film or series, I feel that the women are just trying to find time to see their old friend.
In the past when approached about a Dawson’s reunion, Katie put the prospect down, saying that she likes that people are eager to see the characters, as is she, but she questioned whether people would want to see them at an older age and the cast had decided that no, people would not actually want that. I could be wrong in my interpretation of this article about Busy, but I don’t foresee James’ health changing their minds and making them eager to jump back on set, but I’m curious to hear your thoughts!
Joshua Jackson also spoke recently about Dawson’s Creek and revealed the storyline he thought should’ve been scrapped from the series, check out the article here!
See you back here next week for another edition of The Buzz!
