Wow, I can’t believe that it’s already just about the end of February and even though Hollywood’s slowing down a little bit, Awards Season is still in full swing!
This week, I asked one of my best friends to join me as we took a look at all of the SAG Awards nominees together and placed our predictions on who we thought would win! If you’re interested, take a listen to the Buzz podcast here!
As for what’s been going on in Hollywood, it’s been a little quiet this week but I am happy to follow up on The Goonies sequel film that we’ve been talking about these last few months. Things have been up in the air with the sequel in terms of whether it will happen or not, if the original cast is on board, and what the film might be about. And while I don’t have details on cast or plot, Variety did report this week that the second film is *officially* in the works! It has a writer attached to the project and Steven Spielberg is going to be a producer on the film.
I know it doesn’t seem like much, but with how confusing things have been, even a little bit of information is exciting!
Another movie that’s been in the headlines a lot recently is The Odyssey, the new Christopher Nolan project. There are a ton of big names attached to the project including Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Matt Damon, and Lupita Nyong’o. This week, they announced that Iddo Goldberg and Michael Vlamis have joined the project as well.
Personally, I haven’t been too excited about this film because I’m not the biggest fan of The Odyssey, but this cast is really making me want to see the film, especially now that Michael Vlamis is attached to it.
Vlamis is one of my all time favorite actors – he’s kind, down to earth, funny, and an all around incredible actor – so I am stoked to see that he’s joining such a huge film. He’s best known for his role as Michael Guerin on Roswell: New Mexico and recently made his directorial debut at Austin Film Festival with his film Crossword.
The Odyssey is slated for release on July 17th, 2026, and as more information comes to light, I will be sure to share it with all of you!
Another big project in the works is the Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel. Sarah Michelle Gellar is working on the project which is in development at Hulu and she’s taking this new role very seriously. She has said that the project has been overwhelming, but has made it a point to say that she wouldn’t be working on the project if it wasn’t being done right. Check out this article for more info! It goes into far more depth about the upcoming project.
Lastly, Cynthia Erivo has continued to be in the headlines this week as she is going to be starring in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl this summer!
She’s going to be playing the role of Jesus at the Bowl at the beginning of August and this is not the first time she’s been in a production of this show. She was also in the show in 2020 in an all female adaption playing Mary Magdalene.
Cynthia is also going to be hosting the 2025 Tony Awards!
See you back here next week for another edition of The Buzz!
