Jordyn’s Buzz – June 3rd, 2022

Welcome back to another edition of The Buzz!

In the last week, we’ve welcomed an expansion to the Marvel Universe in Walt Disney World. Not only is it the first Guardians of the Galaxy attraction in Disney, but it’s also the first roller coaster ride in Epcot as well. The coaster is set to an 80s soundtrack, and creators say each ride is unique and you’ll never ride the same ride twice, so you won’t want to skip this on your next Disney trip!

The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial has finally drawn to a close, favoring Depp over Heard.

Right now in England, the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II is being celebrated, marking her 70th anniversary as Queen. If you’d like to see the schedule of events or figure out how to watch any of the festivities, you can do so here.

If you’re looking for new music, make sure you check out Def Leppard’s new album, Diamond Star Halos. The group started creating this album in 2020, right after they found out their tour with Mötley Crüe, Poison, and Joan Jett had been postponed indefinitely. What makes this record so special though is that the members were working from 3 different countries to create it.

They’ve since come forward to describe the process as being “totally a dream” and inspiring to create an album this way. They didn’t have a time limit to produce it, they had no record deal yet, and this was inspiring. They were able to view this album simply as a piece of art, and they say they probably won’t ever go back to traditional recording.

Last up on the list for The Buzz this week is to talk about the show Stranger Things. With the wild popularity of the show’s new season, it’s near impossible to not be talking about it, even if you haven’t watched it yet.

Just last Friday, the first part of season 4 of the show was dropped on Netflix, shattering streaming records and making the show have the best-ever debut weekend and reaching #1 in 83 different countries.

Not only that, but the show has brought in new cast members, and we won’t spoil anything, but boy have these new actors crushed their performances.

Something else that’s making this season special is the resurgence of a song that was featured on the show.

The show takes us on a stroll back to 1985 and highlights Kate Bush’s song “Running Up That Hill”. Although the song has been featured on shows in prior years and has been covered by other artists many times, those things never quite brought it the popularity that Stranger Things has. Not only has the song hit #1 on the charts, but the album that the song is on is climbing the charts right with it.

I’ve loved this song for a long time, but when I read this statistic, even I ran to the iTunes charts to fact check it. I couldn’t believe a song from 1985 (however iconic it is), was replacing Harry Styles at #1 on the charts, but it was true! So if you haven’t seen the new season yet and you have some free time on your hands this weekend, maybe you should take the time to watch this new season.

Signing off for now, but come back next Friday morning for another segment of The Buzz!
