My earliest memories of playing video games was around 1980 at my cousin’s house. Pong, with the sound effects of a grammar school hearing test, was so simple, yet fun.
Then came the Atari craze. Opening up that console on Christmas morning was awesome! Just hook it up to the back of the tv, set the dial to channel 3 and play Pac-Man all day after school. Frogger, Space Invaders were also faves. And Q*bert? He never wore pants, but that didn’t seem to bother anyone.
In the 90’s, I had Nintendo. Once in a blue moon I’ll hook up Donkey Kong Country and see if I can make it thru Mine Cart Carnage using one life.
Now with the great graphics and sound effects of modern game consoles, I find they’re just not as fun to play as the vintage ones. Maybe I haven’t spent enough time playing them. Or maybe my age is catching up.
What was your favorite vintage video game when you were a kid?
